Tasting Notes: This zippy, thirst-quenching-but-somewhat-serious 100% Nero d’Avola Rosato comes from a small portion of Martha's Benson Ranch fruit. The wine is darker than a typical pale pink rosé but lighter than a red wine. The unique color (and more robust flavor) is a result of leaving the foot-tread clusters overnight before being pressed, a method that Italians refer to as Vino di Una Notte, or "one night wine." This wine is extremely drinkable now, but also has the acidity and body to age. Enjoy flavors of tart cherry, sea salt, and strawberry seed.
Vineyard Notes: Benson Ranch is Non-certified organic. Martha Stoumen leases this vineyard which is planted to young-vine (13 years old) Nero d’Avola, Negro Amaro, and Petite Sirah. The vines are head trained and dry farmed, which is rare to see—head trained vineyards are not being planted in California, most that remain were planted just after WWII). Minimal intervention farming is practiced; sprays have been cut down to a couple per year and only elemental sulfur dust is used. No herbicides or pesticides are used.
