Vintage Notes: Keller’s brother-in-law is one of the rising stars of the Rheinhessen and his 16s are far and away his best vintage ever. Seehof crafts a rather powerful style with more glaze and concentration.

Vineyard Notes: The Seehof Riesling Feinherb is an entry-level wine. The Riesling is sourced from estate fruit grown in Seehof's home village of Westhofen, a famous wine village in Rheinhessen. Specifically it is a mixture of very young vines in the grand cru sites (Morstein, Steingrube and Kirchspiel) as well as vines from parcels that are not superb enough to justify going into the top wines. The area is characterized most notably for its limestone soils.

Winemaking Notes: The Riesling Feinherb is fermented in stainless steel and ages for 4-5 months in tank before then bottling.

Reviews

  • Vinous
    Rating: 88 (5/24/2018)

Fresh apple and lime are joined by honeydew melon and cassis for a riper and more colorfully fruited impression as well as more abundant juiciness than found in this wine’s dry counterpart. At the same time, while this doesn’t have to be the case just because of residual sugar, there is less mineral interest. That said, the finish is satisfyingly generous and buoyant.

    Rating: 91 (6/15/2018)

Sweet spice, yellow apple and cardamom notes find equilibrium midpalate, where a streak of savory mineral is introduced, leading to a well-defined, lingering finish. Drink now through 2021.
