Cascina delle Rose - Fine examples of Barbaresco

The history goes back to 1948 when the farm was bought by the Rizzolio family as a summer retreat. The property is 5 hectares: 3 hectares of vineyard, 1.2 hectares used for hazelnuts and the rest of the property includes woods and the winery. At the beginning, the Rizzolio family only pressed enough grapes to make wine for family and friends. After Giovanna inherited the farm in 1992, they started to press 100% of their grapes and the present Cascina delle Rose was born.

In 2005 the Chamber of Commerce with the Enoteca Regionale and the Consorzio di Tutela Barolo e Barbaresco cut the Rio Sordo in two parts, generating a new cru: Tre Stelle. Cascina delle Rose is the only winery producing wine carrying the Barbaresco Tre Stelle cru name.

Apart from Nebbiolo there are tiny plantings of old Dolcetto (1975) and Barbera (1944), offering a comprehensive range of classic Piemontese varieties – an extraordinary achievement regarding the size of the estate. Viticulture is kept as natural as possible with no fertilizers and minimal use of copper and sulphur.
