The Simcic family estate is located in a small Brda village called Ceglo, an hour and a half drive from Ljubljana and Venice. Only 20km separates the estate from the sea. It is a place where the Mediterranean greets the Alps.

Terroir: Their forefathers already knew that this region was something special. They believed that here the Mediterranean greets the Alps. The magical curves of the Goriška Brda hills are warmed by the Mediterranean wind from the Friuli Plain and protected from the mainland cold by the Julian Alps. These are ideal conditions for the vine's growth. Over the recent years, the white and red wines have been the best indicator of the Brda terroir. The Goriška Brda soil - locally called Opoka - deposited on the surface of the hills by ancient oceans. The soil is rich in minerals, which contributes to the production of unique wines.

18 hectares of vineyards are situated on both the Slovenian and Italian side of Brda (Collio). Some are over 55 years old, grown at intervals typical of Friuli vineyards. Marjan Simcic strives to maintain a strong connection with the vines through all our knowledge and respect for the environment. He remains a traditionalist despite the increasing development of wine-growing technology. Work in the vineyard, which results in increased quality (cutting, multiple cleaning of vines, picking of grapes), is done exclusively by hand. It was decided several years ago that the vines would be grown using only natural methods, without any chemical fertilizers or insecticides. This allows for the preservation of the natural cycle of living organisms in the vineyard and enables the soil and the vines to respond naturally, spontaneously, and to become even more harmonious by overcoming certain problems. This toughens the plants, so they are strong and do not produce a mass of leaves. They channel all their energy into the maturing of healthy grapes with a full taste. Living in a healthy natural environment with the vineyards is, therefore, a condition Marjan is not prepared to give up.
