Named for a confluence of two streams on the property, Château Les Mesclances is surrounded by 110 hectares of rolling hills outside the village of La Crau in Provence’s coastal hills. It is located a mere three kilometers from the Mediterranean. The majority of the land has been set aside to preserve Provence’s natural landscape and ecosystem, with only small parcels scattered throughout the property planted to the vine and olive trees. The estate has been in Arnaud de Villeneuve Bargemon's family since the French Revolution, steadily producing the traditional wines of the region and existing as a picturesque ideal of Mediterranean culture. Arnaud with his wife Elisabeth have been the stewards of the estate since 2009.

As is to be expected, much of the vineyard production is dedicated to rosé, with respectable amounts of red and white wines emerging from the cellar each vintage as well. All wines are estate bottled, and 2020 marks the first vintage of certified organic wines at all levels. The geography of the estate dictates the various appellations found on the labels: vines in the plain below the slope are classified as IGP Méditerranée; the foot of the south-facing slope yields AOP Côtes de Provence, and the steeper incline of the hill carries the rare appellation Côtes de Provence La Londe, which carries a high concentration of schist content in the soil. A mere 20 estates count La Londe in their holdings, as the appellation extends across 8 villages in the immediate area.

The 2020 Cotes de Provence Rose Romane is a blend of 42% Grenache, 40% Cinsault and 18% Syrah. Fermented and aged in stainless steel, it's a predictable pale salmon-hued wine, with vibrant notes of lime zest, alpine strawberries and hints of peach and melon. Medium-bodied, it's crisp, clean and impeccably made, with a lasting finish. For the price, it's a solid value.

(Best Buy) Bright red fruits and a crisp texture give this wine light fruitiness. It has a rapier-like freshness, finished with acidity. Drink now.
